A MEASURED RISK
By Natasha Blackthorne

Book one in the Regency Risks Series

He is her most dangerous temptation, the only man she has ever trusted and now he is demanding her submission. Dare she take the risk?

Emotionally scarred in the horrific accident that took her husband’s life, Lady Cranfield is imprisoned by her lingering terror of horses and carriages. She longs to be closer to the fascinating Earl of Ruel, as she senses intuitively that he might be able to teach her how to overcome the terrors that hold her in bondage.

And now she’s willing to risk almost anything—her reputation, even her virtue—to find out.

But what Lord Ruel proposes startles her.
When the shy, studious and socially awkward young widow approaches him, Lord Ruel instantly senses she will be the sweetest, most submissive experience of his life—but first he must gain her complete trust. Lord Ruel makes Lady Cranfield a non-negotiable offer: His help in return for her submission and obedience.
But Lady Cranfield grew up neglected by her ducal parents, raised by servants and then later ignored by her handsome, charming husband. She’s learnt to protect her heart at all costs and she trusts no one but herself.
How can the jaded Earl of Ruel break through Lady Cranfield’s self-defences and show her how to love when he himself has spent his life avoiding that tender trap?

Erotica Romance ~ Light BDSM ~ Rubenesque / BBW ~ Regency Historical ~ Shy Heroine ~ Novel Length 86,000 Words . Contains graphic erotic descriptions and frank sexual language. As a work of historical romance fiction, A Measured Risk is not intended to be an accurate portrayal of modern BDSM lifestyles.

She backed all the way into the bookcase.
“Why did you run away?” His deep voice settled in her belly, rich and warm, like crème brûlée on a cold winter’s night.
“Because I wanted you to follow.” She tried to sound sophisticated and seductive, but her voice choked off on the last word.
Ruel placed his hand on the shelf above her head and blocked her path to the door. His tall, solidly muscled body leaned over her, surrounding her with the sumptuous, sinful scents of tobacco, Scotch whisky and something masculine and undeniably dangerous. A slow, sensual smile stretched his hard mouth.
He appeared different. Softer. More approachable.
At the change, her insides seemed to flip over.
“Well, sweeting, getting us off alone was a very inspired idea.” He touched one of her fallen ringlets. “I am bored to distraction with endless talk of hunting and fencing.”
As he slowly wrapped the curl around two fingers, he brushed her collarbone. Fiery sparks tingled down her spine, so intense that she shivered and her nipples beaded, pressing against her stays. By some instinct she hadn’t even known she possessed, she arched her back, presenting herself for his assessment.
His eyes shone so vividly blue against his bronzed face that they resembled cornflowers. She swallowed tightly and wished for a long drink of claret. This more personal side of him suddenly seemed far more hazardous than his usually fierce exterior.
Well, no matter. There was nothing to fear. She would allow only as much contact as need be to get to know him a little. Since being torn from her lonely yet secure life in Ireland and thrust into Society at age sixteen, she’d spent her time allowing people only as near as was comfortable. She was an expert at emotional evasion.
It should be easy to regain her control.
But now, as rays of the late-afternoon sun played over his pale hair, turning it the colour of winter wheat, all her carefully rehearsed words flew from her mind.
Say something—anything—else he will think you’re a bird-wit.
An intimate smile, one that invited her to play, tugged at his mouth.
“In a situation like this, alone with a gentleman, it’s perfectly normal for a lady to feel some apprehension.” His hushed voice, barely audible above the piano and boisterous singing from down the corridor, accentuated their isolation. His gaze became so piercing that she had to lower her eyes.
He brushed his fingertips over her cheek. “She will invariably ask herself if he will try to kiss her.”
She jerked her eyes back to his face. God, he couldn’t mean to—not yet, surely… Peculiar, heated chills swept over her. She tried to take a step back, but found her arse flush against the bookshelf.
He leaned closer; so close that his Scotch-scented breath tickled her face. “And just in case you are wondering, Lady Cranfield—the answer is most assuredly yes.”
She should demand that he put his arm down so she could pass by and leave. She really should. But she couldn’t stop looking at his hard mouth and wondering what it would feel like upon hers. He was so close to her that his breath blew on her lips. If she moved but a fraction, she’d be kissing him.
Kissing him.
Dear God. Her breaths began to come very fast and short. Her throat went tight with a suppressed moan.
His eyes burnt as brightly as aquamarines. He looked so fierce. If he kissed her, if he dared… Oh God, it would be so harsh. That cruel-looking mouth could express itself no other way.
Excitement rushed through her, sending tingles to every point of her body, even her toes.
But no, he wouldn’t. Not yet.
He kept leaning closer. He didn’t close his eyes. Instead, he seemed to focus all the harder upon her.
Her heart pounding, unable to move away, she braced herself for his assault.
His lips brushed hers, barely. A gossamer caress.
He lifted his head.
It was done.
Ended.
And it hadn’t even begun.
He held her chin, appearing so cool, so unaffected. His kiss had seemed to sear her. An urge to put her fingers to her lips arose in her. She resisted it, for it would give away too much of how she was affected.
Never show your feelings.
He traced his thumb along her lower lip, slowly, deliberately, as he studied her with eyes that now glittered with something powerful and predatory. Heat pooled in her pelvis, low and spreading even lower.
She went weak all over, as if she’d lain in a sunny window seat for too long. Her knees almost buckled. She forced them to lock. To be strong.
It should not have affected her so profoundly. It had been just a peck—not a true kiss at all. William had poured out all of his skill upon her and hadn’t garnered even a tenth of the reaction in her that this man’s peck had.
Ruel traced her jaw line with his fingertips. Unthinkingly, she leaned in to his touch.
“Of course, once he has kissed her, then it’s his turn to wonder…” His voice sounded unnaturally loud in her ears. “How will she respond? Will she withdraw, or can he ignite some hidden fire?”
She sensed that he was toying with her. She didn’t understand flirtation—why had she imagined she could carry off this ruse? Was he making advances in order to have a laugh with Francesca and her simpering friends later? Hurt blossomed in her chest. She resented him for that. She ought to feel indignant, superior, uncaring—anything but hurt.
“Please don’t make sport of me.”
She cringed. Was that quavering, pleading voice really hers?
An infinitesimal pause. “Now, why on earth would I do such a thing?” His voice was as smooth as velvet.
“To please your vanity,” she replied, trying to regain her wits.
“Here.” He placed her hand to his chest. The contours of his muscles were hard, powerfully developed. Even more so than she’d expected. His body heat radiated through the satin and, beneath her hand, his heart’s beat was rapid and strong.
“Is that vanity?” He put a finger under her chin, giving her no choice but to face him. “Is it?” He gentled his grip.
The warmth in his voice settled over her like luscious hot chocolate. Melting her insides to quivering burgoo, rendering her speechless, unable to move.
“My dear, lovely Lady Cranfield, I am going kiss you again.”

I gave this book 5 Romanticals!

Review:
First of all I have to say I am a big fan of Natasha Blackthorne’s. She has amazed me again and again with her books and this one totally blew me away. She is a master class in this genre. A stand out for sure.

Trust Me is Book 2 in the Regency Risk Series, when I found out that we would be getting more of Jon and Anne I was so excited.

I love Natasha’s writing style. She brings you back in time and takes you on a superb journey that stays with you. This book was very well written.

Jon is an handsome dominate but caring male who wants Anne’s complete trust. Anne has come along way since A Measured Risk but she is still holding some of herself back from Jon.
Will Jon be able to heal all of her before he loses her? Will Anne be able to be everything Jon needs? Well you really need to read this to find out!

In this intensely erotic, emotionally driven love story we get light to moderate BDSM, passion filled love making and sizzling sex scenes that will have you melting in your seat breathlessly. Prepare to fan yourself while saying a lot of OH MY! 🙂
The sex scenes were so hot I thought my kindle would ignite. I have no doubt that if I was reading this in paperback that it would of gone up in flames 🙂

A true love story about the struggles of love, trust, submission, domination and how to deal with it back in the Regency era.

Loved this book and I can’t wait for the next one 🙂

REVIEW- 5 Romanticals

First of all I have to say I have yet to be disappointed by Claudy’s books. Her books go beyond my expectations. They are all so very well written.

I absolutely love how Claudy connects all of her books. It’s like each book is somehow connected in a special way even if it’s a part of a different series. She has created such an incredible magical world that you can not help but want to be a part of. This book has twists that will make you scream OMG! WOW! AMAZING!

We get visits from some of my favorite characters from the previous books. It’s such a great treat.

In this book we again meet with Andrew. He has a task that he will have to complete to get what he wants. The evil wizard Baudali is helping him. Will these 2 be able to accomplish their task?

Luke a handsome Scottish hybrid with green eyes is on a mission to stop Andrew. He meets the beautiful Kelsey. Right off the start there is explosive chemistry between them. They both try to fight it though.

Kelsey, a wolf shifter with something a little extra inside her. She is struggling with what is inside her. She doesn’t fully understand it or how to control it. On top of that she encounters the most handsome man she has ever seen. She knew she was in trouble when it came to him.
Can she discover herself while losing herself to the passion burning inside her for Luke?

Will Luke be able to help Kelsey? Love Kelsey? and at the same time be able to stop Andrews evil plans?

Well I will guarantee you that if you read this book you will LOVE it! Matter of fact you will want to read all of her other books because you will become addicted :)))

Review: Beyond Pain by Kit Rocha

Beyond Series:

Book 3:

Beyond Pain: Bren and Six

Beyond Pain (Beyond, #3)

Purchase on Amazon: Kit Rocha – Beyond Pain (Beyond, Book Three)

Summary:

From Goodreads.com

A woman with no future…

Live fast, die young–anything else is a fantasy for Six. She’s endured the worst the sectors had to throw at her, but falling in with Dallas O’Kane’s Sector Four gang lands her in a whole new world of danger. They’re completely open about everything, including their sexuality–but she hasn’t survived this long by making herself vulnerable. Especially not to men as dominant as Brendan Donnelly.

A man without a past…

Bren is a killer, trained in Eden and thrown to the sectors. His one outlet is pain, in the cage and in the bedroom, and emotion is a luxury he can’t afford–until he meets Six. Protecting her soothes him, but it isn’t enough. Her hunger for touch sparks a journey of erotic discovery where anything goes–voyeurism, flogging, rough sex. He has only one rule: he won’t share her.

In Bren’s arms, Six is finally free to let go. But his obsession with the man who made him a monster could destroy the fragile connection they’ve forged, and cost him the one thing that makes him feel human–her love.

Review:

BEYOND PAIN by Kit Rocha is one of my favorite books so far this year. To say that I am obsessed with this series and the men and women of O’Kane clan is an understatement. I first read BEYOND SHAME on a whim; I mean come on you just got to see what dystopian erotica is all about. I have to admit I was quite intrigued by the concept. After BEYOND SHAME it was the characters that stuck with me for a while, making me go back and re-read the book. I ended up loving it even more the 2nd time around. Since then, I have been quite obsessed. Kit Rocha cannot pump out books from this series fast enough for my liking. The women of Sector Four are survivors and tough, they might start the book doubting themselves due to circumstances but you can bet by the end of the book, they bring the tough O’Kane men to their knees. The O’Kane men, man o’ man are you in for a sexy treat, whether you are into the more showy of the men (Ace), the obvious leader (Dallas) or the more undercover bad asses (Cruz and Bren) there is an O’Kane for you! Or you can be like Annie from over at Under the Covers Book Blog and claim all of the O’Kane men for yourself! Lol

For me, I’m more a fan of the undercover bad ass. The person that stays in the shadows and takes care of any business at hand. From the start I was intrigued by Bren, he is Dallas’s shadow. He came from nothing, made his way to the elite guard and was then betrayed by his leader; which brought him to the Sectors. He’s been with Dallas from pretty much the beginning, and would do anything for Dallas which is why his revenge against the one that betrayed him has been on the back burner but not forgotten. Bren is the KING of the cage, pretty much unbeatable, trained to kill; it’s what he knows and what he’s good at. His love of pain doesn’t certainly doesn’t hinder his success in and out of the cage. Bren is a masochist, but don’t mistake him for a submissive because he is all dominate male! He says it best in this line. “I like pain, not submission. I’m in charge, sweetness, or it won’t work.” I thought the pain would pay a larger part in this book, although it is mentioned and does play a part it is minimal; however, his dominate tendencies are front and center. The minute this dominate male tucked a beaten Six in the back of his car he’s felt protective of her. He is determined to bring life back to Six. Little by little he earns her trust and finally gets her into his bed. But with his revenge so very close after so many years he may lose himself to it, or even worse he may lose Six, because he is blinded by something that may not seem so important if he no longer has the one thing that has come to mean more to him then his own life. What I liked about Bren, besides all of his badassness is he doesn’t really fight his feeling for Sex, he knows that he wants her and patiently goes about getting her. He knows she’s damaged and is willing to put in the work to help her put the pieces of herself back together again and then make her stronger. He never tells her she can’t do something, he even helps her obtain it.

When we meet Six in BEYOND SHAME she is beaten into a bloody pulp. She is beyond damaged, she is shattered, both mentally and physically. She doesn’t understand how things work in Sector Four, she is used to a whole different regime where the men take what they want, and abuse is the norm. She doesn’t know what to do with herself in Sector Four, for now she is working in the bar but she still feels like an outsider. When Bren needs her help she eagerly steps up, not only does this bring her closer to Bren, but it manages to make her feel more like one of the O’Kanes. I have a proud momma moment when she steps into the Cage and has the opportunity to beat the shit out of one of the men that just stood by and watched her get abused over and over again. And when I say, beat the shit out of, I mean she really beat his ass! You go girl! Little by little she finds herself worth again. The O’Kanes have a way of taking the damaged and making them stronger in the end in their own way and Six is no exception to this trend. She ends up finding her place with or without Bren.

In BEYOND PAIN more so than the other books of this series has stronger world building. We spend more time building up the world and more importantly some of the O’Kanes. We are introduced to a couple of new characters and build upon some of the others. We are building a strong foundation for future books especially BEYOND JEALOUSLY which will be the next full length book in this series, which I cannot wait for! I think with the world building we do lose a little of the intensity of the first two books, but it’s minimal as I still freak’n loved this book! One thing you can count on with this series is some seriously creative sex scenes. There are lots of one offs but I’ve come to notice that there is one scene that is THE SCENE and you know it when you get to it. Annie and I were telling Sarah from feelingfictional.com that when she got to the scene we were talking about it she would know it. And sure enough, when she got to it, she knew exactly what we were talking about. Lol It was truly creative and HOT HOT HOT! There was this other scene that I had wished we had gotten the end of, there was build up and bam, we are somewhere else. Damn you Kit Rocha for that tease! Guess they will just have to make it up to us in BEYOND JEALOUSLY.

ARC Review: Christine D’Abo – Choose your Shoot: An Interactive Erotic Adventure

Long Shots Series:

Book 5:

Choose Your Shot: An Interactive Erotic Adventure – Tegan, Master Grant, Eli or Adam

Choose Your Shot: An Interactive Erotic Adventure (Long Shots #5)

Purchase on Amazon:  Choose Your Shot: An Interactive Erotic Adventure (Long Shots)

Summary:

From Goodreads.com

Come explore the newer, naughtier Maverick’s, where you are in control of the story.

It’s been a year since the decadent BDSM club was gutted in a fire. Tegan has scored an invitation to the grand reopening, where she can finally indulge the needs she’s ignored for too long. On her wicked wish list: a thorough spanking, adventurous playmates and complete erotic satisfaction.

As a switch, Tegan can find pleasure as either a sub or a Domme. The question is, what—and who—is she in the mood for tonight?

Master Grant: dominant and drop-dead gorgeous, he hasn’t forgotten their last encounter. He’ll make sure Tegan gets what she craves—if she submits to him alone.

Eli: the sexy switch has always wanted more from Tegan. But taking their relationship to the next level could mean risking their friendship.

Adam: the last man Tegan expects to encounter at the club, but one she’d love to see more of—if he behaves…

Choose which ending you want for Tegan, or explore all of the sensual possibilities.

Review:

What a great concept for erotica, you get to choose where the story goes; you can pick different scenarios and then go back and try something new. Due to the nature of the story(s) I’m not quite sure how to go about reviewing this book but I’ll do my best. . It’s like 3+ stories in one. I did go back and try different scenes and take Tegan through different possibilities. It was quite fun, I do have to admit.

So the choose your own adventure part of the book is fun and intriguing you get to take Tegan through her paces. Decide you don’t like one of the scenes, that’s ok, go try a different one. There are several scenes within scenes that you can choose from making this all sorts of fun.

As for the story(s) itself, I have been a fan of the Long Shots series by Christine D’Abo for a while so I was excited to see this one pop up. Mavericks is back after a year absence after the fire, only now Paul is in charge. If we met Tegan in one of the previous books, I don’t remember her, but that’s ok. I like that Tegan is a switch that allows for more opportunity to choose your own adventure. For me I preferred the scene as her as a Sub, I have to admit, I found Master Grant sexy. So this was my favorite scene, I also tried her out as a Domme. For me the Domme scenario didn’t seem as natural to her. I do admit that I skipped the Eli scenario, I was curious about him but I read the Master Grant scene first and Eli lost his appeal, I’ll probably go back to it but for now, I’m letting it lie. Adam was enjoyable as a character, he’s a sub, but not too submissive. He really just wants to please a woman, he gets off on it. Who wouldn’t want a man that all he wants to do is make you happy? It’s an intriguing concept, but as mentioned this scene felt a little more forced.

What I didn’t like about the choose your adventure is I felt like we didn’t get to know the characters as well. It’s like little snippets of who they are. The endings are also very abrupt to me. The romance lover in me wanted to see more of a conclusive outcome for each of the scenes. I think that could have been elaborated on more, instead of.. BAM “The End”. I didn’t feel like I got my HEA with any of the scenes, we were on our way to it, but it gets cut off.

Overall, I really enjoyed this concept which may not be new in general, but is new to this genre. It is different and fun. I do feel like there is some room for improvement, but it’s a great start and if Christine D’Abo decides to do another, I’d probably read it. Do I want to see all my erotica this way, no not really, but as a once in a while treat, sure. Maybe, we can get a Tegan 2nd go around to see how these scenes turned out after they leave the club or all new scenes.

ARC Review: Olivia Cunning – Wicked Beat

The Sinners On Tour:

Book 4:

Wicked Beat: Eric Sticks and Rebekah

Wicked Beat (Sinners on Tour, #4)

Purchase on Amazon:  Wicked Beat (The Sinners on Tour)

Summary:

From goodreads.com

From the moment he lays eyes on Sinners’ new front of house soundboard operator, drummer Eric Sticks knows he has to make Rebekah his. Unfortunately, she’s too busy trying to seduce guitarist Trey Mills to pay him much attention. Rebekah never planned to fall for the tall, goofy drummer with the weird sense of humor and a heart the size of the galaxy. But Eric makes her laugh and his constant attention makes her feel sexy and irresistible–exactly what she needs after the things her last lover said to her. A woman who gives as much as she takes, Rebekah makes Eric feel like a total stud–exactly what he needs after surviving a decade of watching the incredibly talented members of Sinners from the wings.

Review:

So I’m sad for the end of this series. It’s been a crazy ride but alas all good things must come to the end and since we are out of band members it time to move on, thankfully we still have Exodus End and they are on tour with the Sinners, so we’ll still get glimpses of our guys!

Eric, up until now has been a bit of a mystery we don’t know that much about him. We know he is the creative genius of the band, yet probably the least celebrated as the drummer of the band, oh and we know he LOVES to watch! We probably saw the most from him in Jace’s book and I think my heart broke a little for him when he was so despondent. I think of most of the guys, he’s the one that wanted someone to love the most. As an orphan who was bounced around the system he never really had any love and he is more than ready for it. Who would have thought that goofy Eric is really a hopeless romantic? I didn’t really see it coming, but he turns out to be such a sweet one he had me in tears at the end of the book which is why this one gets a five! (if I hadn’t cried, I would have given it a 4 or 4.5 but I have a rule!) I really enjoyed Eric! He’s not my favorite Sinner, but he definitely moved up the list after this book.

Rebekah may be my favorite Sinner chick of the series, which truthfully isn’t really saying that much. The women of this series are not my favorite heroines of any series but Rebekah she was fun and spunky. After she almost lost her life she has such a zest for life and to live it to its fullest. She attacks things head on and really goes for it. She’s a bit of a tomboy and a car enthusiast. When she first goes on tour with the Sinners its Trey she has a thing for, but as Eric makes her laugh he quickly turns her hear in his direction which makes me happy. Trey would have been all wrong for her. At first I had a bit of a problem with how she just started the job and she is messing around almost immediately but whatev’s I decided to take it all in the spirit that its intended. Rebekah is very patient with Eric, he is a bit quick on the trigger, be she is more than willing to work with him on it. In fact she likes his excitement. When we meet Rebekah I am sad to say her self-esteem when it comes to her sex appeal was in the toilet. After what her ex said to her, I don’t blame her. Eric’s enthusiasm goes a long way to healing those hurts.

As a couple, I really enjoyed Eric and Reb. They are all sorts of fun, I loved all the costumes and role play, it adds a bit of humor to an act that tends to not lean towards humor but I think every couple should have a bit of fun in the sack. I am afraid we have to live through some insta-love in this book. I will say it wasn’t obnoxious like a lot of other insta-love situations and it sorta worked since both characters are pretty loved starved, but I would have preferred that they held off a bit on the exclamations on love. The sex was hot hot hot, which was the main plot of the book. For as much as this book centered around sex, I’m surprised we knew the characters as well as we did, but there wasn’t much else that happens in the book. Don’t get me wrong it’s still entertaining and I highly enjoyed this book. Overall, it’s not the best book in the series but it is a solid one. It was a good way to end the series. Now I want to re-read the entire series in order.

ARC Review: Tiffany Reisz – The Mistress

The Original Sinners Series:

Book 4:

The Mistress: Nora Sutherlin

The Mistress (The Original Sinners, #4)

Expected publication: July 30th 2013

Purchase on Amazon: Tiffany Reisz – The Mistress (The Original Sinners)

Summary:

From Goodreads.com

There’s punishment-and then there’s vengeance.

Nora Sutherlin is being held, bound and naked. Under different circumstances, she would enjoy the situation immensely, but her captor isn’t interested in play. Or pity.

As the reality of her impending peril unfolds, Nora becomes Scheherazade, buying each hour of her life with stories-sensual tales of Søren, Kingsley and Wesley, each of whom has tempted and tested and tortured her in his own way. This, Nora realizes, is her life: nothing so simple, so vanilla, as a mere love triangle for her. It’s a knot in a silken cord, a tangled mass of longings of the body and the heart and the mind. And it may unravel at any moment.

But in Nora’s world, no one is ever truly powerless-a cadre of her friends, protectors and lovers stands ready to do anything to save her, even when the only certainty seems to be sacrifice and heartbreak….

Review:

So I just finished the book and at the very end, i kept clicking thinking there was no way she was going to end the series like that! click click away until I finally had to admit defeat and alas it was the end. =(

Love her or hate her you have to admit that Tiffany Reisz can write a damn book! The characters are developed the scenes so real you feel like you are there with them. Surprisingly funny and yet intense at the same time. She pushes your comfort zone sometimes to places you don’t want to go, but you can’t stop reading anyway. Although this is probably the tamest book in the series sex wise this series as a whole is not for the squeamish.

For me this book pulls things together, the things that may have made you uncomfortable in previous books are brought into better light in this book, more understanding behind the feelings or thought processes of some of the characters. Tiffany Reisz has this way of explaining the lifestyle in a way that I think even the most “vanilla” would have an easier time understanding, they may not agree with it, but they have a better understanding of the kink lifestyle.

As previously mentioned kink wise this book is probably the tamest but it s still highly entertaining. Nora becomes our sensual story teller as she takes us through some of her previous sexcapades. In the Prince sometime the the switching from present to past was jarring as you are yanked out of one scene into another, this time the transition is more fluid and natural. You don’t feel jarred as we move from the present into story telling mode. For me the transitioning between timelines and characters was flawless and I expect nothing less from Reisz. I loved this book as much as the previous. By the end I was pretty satisfied with everyone’s paths and there a few extra surprises thrown in. It also looks like Reisz left it open for some novellas for the future as this is supposed to be the last full length of this series. Although Griffin and Michael aren’t in this book much and I missed them. They are my favorite M/M couple!
