Review: Kristen Ashley – Wild Man

Dream Man Series:

Book 2:

Wild Man: Brock Lucas and Tessa O’Hara

Wild Man (Dream Man, #2)

Purchase on Amazon: Kristen Ashley – Wild Man (Dream Man)

Summary:

From Goodreads.com

While filling her display case in her bakery, the bell over the door sounds and Tessa O’Hara looks up and sees the man of her dreams. Within thirty seconds he asks her out for a beer. Thirty seconds later, she says yes. But after four months of falling in love, she discovers he’s an undercover DEA Agent investigating the possibility she’s involved in her ex-husband’s drug business

Obviously Tess decides this means it’s over.

But DEA Agent Brock Lucas disagrees. A man on a mission who’s really committed to his job, he’s spent years in the underbelly of Denver with the dregs of society. And spending four months with Tess who’s as sweet as her cupcakes, he seriously enjoyed his job. But during Tess’s interrogation, Brock learns the devastating secret Tess is carrying and he’s determined to be the man who helps her heal as well as take her back as she walks on the wild side.

As wild and sweet mix, they face challenge after challenge of family struggling with history and terminal illness. Not to mention, Tess’s ex-husband, the drug lord and Brock’s ex-wife, who has a very big playbook are scheming to tear them apart.

But Brock Lucas has wild in him and once in his past on the trail of vengeance he let that wild loose, making a mistake that he would have no idea years later will put his sweet Tess in the position to pay his penance.

Review:

Enjoy Ms. Ashley’s characters they are full sass and sarcasm. In this book Tessa is just as sweet as sweet can be. She’s like the cupcakes she makes. She has everything a man would want in a woman, sweet as can be, loving with a bit of sass, never plays games, loyal and a good career, a true keeper. Brock knows he has a winner on his hands when he first meets Tess, the only problem is, he’s under cover and she doesn’t know his real name. When the truth comes out Tess walks out on him. Three months later Brock is ready to claim Tess whether she is ready or not.

As with Mystery Man, Kristen Ashley takes us on a wild trip of drama, suspense and action. Although the action is not quite as much as Mystery Man, there is plenty of family drama to make up for that. Brock comes from a nosey as hell family. They are all up in each other’s business, which definitely makes for some fun dramatic situations. On top of family drama, there is danger surrounding Tess, her ex-husband is out on bail and he wants Tess back. There is all sorts of fun wrapped up in this book: drama, action, laughs and good times.

Brock is a total alpha, hot, sexy, brash and commanding. I love it when he just says “Tess, mouth” and that is all that he says and Tess obeys. And why wouldn’t she? If I had a sexy commanding alpha male I’d kiss him too if he demanded it. But Tess is not without her own power; Brock adores her and would do anything for her. She pretty much has him effectively wrapped around her finger. I didn’t love Tess and Brock as much as I loved Gwen and Hawk, but I did love them. We also get visits from the characters from Mystery Man, including Gwen and a cameo from Hawk. We also get some good time with Elvira, whom I adore. If she doesn’t get her own book, I’ll be disappointed. .

If you enjoy sassy women who love their alpha males, this series is for you. It has tons of laughs and characters you can love.

Netherby Halls

This enchanting tale has it all. Claudy never stops amazing me with her wonderful tales. Claudy’s books always deliver and fulfill.
It doesn’t matter what genre you prefer she has a way of combining genres that make you wow in amazement.
Especially this book. I love historical romance but when there is a paranormal twist to it, it makes it even better for me. Its one of my favorite genres for sure, the best of both worlds.

This tale has love, lust, passion, magic, suspense, mystery, mayhem and murder. This book kept me glued to my kindle from beginning to end. I just couldn’t seem to put it down.

Sassy, a somewhat naive beauty is left parent less. She is confused about what is going on inside her. She is trying to make sense of everything happening to her. Seeing the man that appears in her dreams on the street one day changes everything. Will she ever be the same?

Justin, a handsome marquis with secrets of his own sees the beauty who comes to him in his dreams. He knows right then that things have changed and he needs more of her.

When Sassy, and Justin finally meet sparks fly and they cannot deny what they feel. The mystery starts, so hold on tight because you are in for a delight!!!!

Claudy Conn gives us just the right amount of background to each character. I often find myself bored when an author goes on and on about a characters background but that never happens to me with Claudy’s characters.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book!

ARC Review: Olivia Cunning – Hot Ticket

The Sinners On Tour:

Book 3:

Hot Ticket: Jace Seymour and Aggie/Mistress V

Hot Ticket (Sinners on Tour, #3)

Releases on: February 5th 2013

Purchase on Amazon: Olivia Cunning – Hot Ticket (The Sinners on Tour)

Summary:

From Goodreads.com

There are things in bassist Jace Seymour’s past that he is unwilling to share with anyone. To cover his guilt and anguish, he seeks dominatrix Mistress V (Aggie) to temporarily placate his inner turmoil. Aggie doesn’t have much use for men–besides the power rush she gets when they’re begging for mercy at her feet–but Jace isn’t like her usual clients. His cool defiance and unexpected dominance in the bedroom drives her to distraction and quickly steals her heart. When circumstances threaten Jace’s position in Sinners, Aggie must help him regain his rightful place in the band while showing him that time and love can heal all wounds.

Review:

I freak’n LOVED it! Best Sinners book yet! Jace almost had me in tears, the only thing holding me back is bc I was reading in public! LOL It’s emotional, its sexy, its funny and it features rock stars! Seriously can you beat that combo? I don’t think so!

Jace has been the most quite and elusive of the Sinners. Coming into this book we know next to nothing about Jace other than he’s into bondage from what we can tell. What we got, I never expected from the shy Jace. His past is quite simply heartbreaking, I could not remain unemotional when it came to Jace, just thinking about him brings a slight tear to the eye. He is quite possibly one of my favorite characters that I have read this year and I have read over 200 books so far in 2012. He’s so sad and lonely, he grew up knowing he wasn’t wanted. His mother dies in a car accident, and then his abusive father in a fire and was then shipped off to a group home. He has never known love and doesn’t think anyone could love or like him as he is. The only thing that Jace has had, is his music and his place in the Sinners. When something occurs that makes him unable to play his bass for several concerts the Sinners bring in Jon their former Bassist and Jace feels even more insecure than ever. He feels like his place in the band is in jeopardy, after all why would they want him, whose not a performer when they can have Jon who rocks the stage like Jace has never done. All around him he feels like his world is falling apart, the only thing tangible to him right now, is Aggie. His sweet Aggie gives him everything he ever wanted but he has a hard time accepting it. He has never felt like a woman could love him with all of his issues and his need for pain. He finds that Aggie likes to give him pain, but she is used to men that submit and submitting is something he will never truly do. A masochist he may be but a submissive he will never be, even his father couldn’t beat submission into him.

I also LOVED Aggie. She has been my favorite of the Sinner’s ladies so far, with Reagan a pretty close second. Aggie is hard, yet soft. She is a dominatrix that loves to bring men to their feet, for her there is nothing better than a submissive her specialty is making grown men cry. She meets Jace in the strip club where she works, he asks her to give him pain. Pain she can do, but its his refusal to submit and the fire in his eye grabs her attention more than inflicting pain could ever do. Aggie is so bad ass, she just bulldozes her way into Jace’s life. I get a chuckle just thinking about it. Talk about taking what she wants, she decides she wants Jace and she gets him. She knows that he has deep seeded issues, but lucky for him she doesn’t mind that. She knows with some time, patience and pain, she can help him through those issues. She showers him with love, knowing that he hasn’t had much love in his life; she knows he may never be able to return her love but she has enough for both of them. With each beating and every time she showers her love on him she gets a little more out of him, she begins to break down his wall and get through the defenses. She even manages to get the other Sinners in on some of her plans. Aggie manages to help Jace become closer to his band, without her he never would have been able to come out of himself to make the initiative.

This book is one of my favorites that I have read this year. It almost brought me to tears, the only reason I didn’t cry was because I was on an elliptical machine at the gym and I refuse to cry in public! LOL. It was incredibly emotional especially for a book in the erotica genre. Olivia Cunning knows how to weave emotion and sensuality seamlessly within a novel. The story is draws you in enough that you forget that technically this is erotica and shouldn’t be bringing you to tears. Olivia Cunning in turn will also have you laughing out loud. She has such a fun sense of humor and always injects it into her stories. I love to laugh in a novel so this is always welcome. O. Cunning has become one of my favorite authors and after reading Hot Ticket I am anxiously awaiting Snared which is Eric’s book. We get a more in depth look at Eric in this book as well and I am really looking forward to it! And then once Eric’s book is out I am going to re-read the series in order as it was meant to be. I know I warned you in Double Time but I’ll mention it again, I really suggest reading these books in order. Double Time is the last book of the series but was released third, which I am still not sure what the reasoning was on that.

Review: Sylvia Day – A Passion for Him

Georgian Series:

Book 3:

A Passion for Him: Amelia Benbridge and Colin Mitchell

A Passion for Him (Georgian, #3)

Purchase on Amazon: Sylvia Day – A Passion For Him

Summary:

From Goodreads.com

Miss Amelia Benbridge is ready to leave behind a past filled with heartbreak for a sensible marriage. Until temptation itself comes calling, with an invitation to seduction…

She Loved and Lost Him Once…

Amelia Benbridge and the Earl of Ware are the most anticipated match of the Season. Lord Ware is handsome, wealthy, and kind, and he understands that her love will always belong to her childhood sweetheart, Colin. When Colin died, Amelia believed she would never feel such passion again. But her primal reaction to the brooding stranger who approaches her at a masquerade, coaxing her into a moonlit minuet and a single, sensual kiss, proves otherwise…
Colin Mitchell knew a pairing between a peer’s daughter and a gypsy stable boy was impossible. Amelia’s mistaken belief in his demise afforded him the opportunity to return to her as a man of means. But time has slipped through his fingers. She is preparing to wed another, and danger prevents him from revealing the truth. Colin can only bid her a secret farewell, but he underestimates her determination to unmask her phantom admirer. A forbidden kiss leads to her ardent pursuit and a soul-scorching affair. Amelia is perfectly attuned to his every desire, every thought—and hungry for stability he can’t offer her. For deception lies at the heart of their love, waiting to drive them apart once again…

Review:

I have really enjoyed everything that I have read by Sylvia Day and this book is no exception. Day has a way of really absorbing you into the story whatever it may be. I’m not a huge fan of historicals, that can be hit and miss with me, but this one was a definite hit. I loved the characters, to the forbidden childhood love, to the reunited love. I’m a sucker for reunites! Especially if that love was forbidden at one time.

Amelia is saucy as hell! I quite enjoyed her as a character, she was free spirited and spoke her mind. In the era that this book takes place that is not a characteristic that one would find from a Lady, but Amelia doesn’t care. She doesn’t live her life for others, which is a trait I always admire. She is worried that with her passionate nature that she will turn out like her murderous father, after all his blood does flow through her veins. With that thought in mind she is determined to marry her childhood friend Lord Ware. He is stable and they can talk about anything and everything. He is handsome and she loves him, but she is not in love with him. This is okay with both of them, Lord Ware has no desire to get his heart caught up in matters of the heart and Amelia has long since given her heart away and has never gotten it back. All of that changes when she meets a masked stranger and suddenly she is experiencing feelings she hasn’t felt in years. Amelia embraces these feelings, she knows that if without love is not really a life at all. She is a bit reckless in her pursuit but you have to admire a woman that goes after what she really wants. But that pursuit can have dire consequences.

Colin is a hot and sexy character; he is confident and just exudes sex appeal. I think it is his wild gypsy blood! Why are there not more gypsy characters? I think there needs to be, such an underutilized ethnicity, its exotic, fun and sexy as hell. For years he has been doing everything he can to make it so he can return to his Amelia. I love his dedication to his love! He has no problem expressing his love to Amelia, I’m so used to the man that you practically have to drag the emotion out of him, but with Colin he feels it freely! It’s kind of a breath of fresh air. Even though Colin had done everything in his power to make sure it would be safe for him to come back to court Amelia, on his last night in France all goes to hell and he is now hunted. It is that in mind that keeps Colin from courting Amelia properly and he wears a mask, he just means to see her once, but he didn’t expect his headstrong Amelia to pursue him. It is that pursuit that now her life is in jeopardy as much as his is, and if he can’t find the one that wants him dead, everything he has done will be all for not.

This is a great story that is hot ans sexy. The characters are alive and vibrant. The story is fast paced and not a bit boring. There is intrigue, mystery and plenty else to keep you entertained for the duration. This is the third book in the series, but it can be read on its own. There are references to Amelia’s sister that has me very intrigued and making me want to go back to read her book. Maria’s story seems like it would be very interesting! She is referred to the most dangerous woman in England and her husband is a pirate! Hell Yeah, I’m about it. Lol. Amelia does not fall far from that apple tree as her sister has taught her everything she knows. I definitely enjoyed this book and would recommend it to others, especially those who enjoy a good historical.

Review: Jay Crownover – Rule

Rule Series:

Book 1:

Rule: Rule Archer and Shaw Landon

Rule (Rule #1)

Purchase on Amazon: Jay Crownover – Rule

Summary:

From Goodreads.com

I had loved Rule Archer since the first moment I ever laid eyes on him. He was everything I shouldn’t want and the only person I went out of my way to not try and please. He only saw me as a brat, and an entitled, stuck up princess but worse than that all he saw when he looked at me was his deceased twin’s girl. It broke my heart because as much as I had loved Remy Archer there was never anything romantic between us and no matter how hard I tried to convince myself that loving Rule was a terrible idea, my poor heart just wouldn’t listen. We tolerated each other, barely and had forged an uneasy alliance until one night I had too much to drink and changed the way we were forever. Suddenly life long secrets were no longer hidden and the one thing I always wanted for myself seemed obtainable as long as I was willing to go through hell to hold onto it.

Shaw Landon was a class act and I had no idea what to do with her. She was tied to my family, tied to the person that was my other half so I tolerated her and her haughty attitude when I didn’t have any other choice. What I didn’t know was that a short skirt and too many cocktails on her birthday was going to change my outlook on her for the rest of my life. Some people thought I hid behind all my tattoos and piercings, that I tried to distance myself from my dead twin, Shaw saw through it all and wasn’t scared of what was underneath. We weren’t supposed to be together, weren’t supposed to be anything but uncomfortable acquaintances but that all changed in the blink of an eye. Now I had to figure out just how a girl like her and a guy like me were supposed to be in love without destroying each other. Add in her custom made ex and two disapproving sets of parents and the whole situation sounded like it was more trouble then it was worth.

Recommended for mature readers due to sexual content, language and drinking.

Review:

Ok, first things first, I have to mention the editing of this book. I am not usually an editing snob (I know my own is not always the best) and it usually doesn’t bother me much because it doesn’t really pertain to the story itself but this time it has to be discussed. This is quite possibly without a doubt the worst edited book I have EVER read. There has to be some sort of spelling or grammatical error on every single page. The editing was so bad it distracted me from the actual story which is quite good. I had to go back and reread sentences with the correct sentence structure in my head just to make sure I understood it correctly. I swear I don’t think anyone read over this book for any editing. However, that being said, I did read on the authors blog a few days ago that she has sent this book off for professional editing so hopefully this is mote point in a week or two. And the book will come back from editing all shiny and new and properly edited.  ***Update: It’s been edited and updated on amazon. So go forth and purchase!***

Ok, editing rant over. So I picked this book up pretty much because of the cover, I mean come on look at the hottie on the cover and top of that it was about a tattoo artist. I do have a thing for bad boys, specifically musicians and tattoo artists. I was a bit worried about another “opposites attract” story and had a feeling this book would be a lot like ROCK ME by Cherrie Lynn. I was not incorrect in that assumption. There are a lot of similarities to ROCK ME, especially due to the fact once again we have a bad boy tattoo artist and a good girl that always tries to please her parents and struggles with that. However, the stories are a bit different so this isn’t exactly like ROCK ME but similar.

Overall the story was good, it was fantastic but it was pretty good. I thought I would feel the same about Shaw that I did about Candace in ROCK ME which was EH but surprisingly enough I ended up liking Shaw a lot more than I expected. Shaw at first wasn’t willing to stand up to her parents but she quickly found a backbone and I liked that about her. She also knew her worth and would not let Rule treat her like his “groupies” which I liked about her. She was also a very loyal friend which I always like in a character. Now, Rule is a tool. Seriously, he’s kinda a douche. Well at least in the beginning he is, he grows as a character and loses some of his douchiness. By the end of the book I liked Rule, I didn’t LOVE Rule, bit he kind of grew on me. In ROCK ME we all LOVED Brain from the get-go, now he is a character that you lust after, always. I was expecting Rule to be more like Brain, but alas he wasn’t. Now Rule’s friends Nash and Jet, I could get down with. I liked them more than I did Rule, especially Nash. Jet is still an enigma but his book is next so I am sure we will find out a whole lot more about him. Along with Rule’s friends we have Shaw’s friend (Sorry I’m drawing a blank on her name right now) who I also really enjoyed as a character. I can’t wait to get to her story as well.

Despite the fact that this story was far from original I still really enjoyed it and the characters. The story does pull you in, it doesn’t grip you and not let you go but you spend a very enjoyable few hours in this world. Most of the story I saw coming from a mile away including Remy’s big secret that is hinted about and much of the story line we have seen from various other books just put together in a different way or order, but I find this is pretty common in Contemporary. This series has a lot of potential and I will definitely pick up the next book in the series whenever it may come out, which according to the author’s blog she is hoping to be in May, but that may change if she gets a contract. I do encourage any of those who do want to read this book to wait until it is properly edited which should be very soon. I also hope as someone who already purchased the book that I automatically get the revised edition. I would like to re-read the book without all of the errors.

Rating: 3.75 Romanticals

(I had to knock off some because of the editing because it did distract me and took away from the enjoyment of the story.)

This Weeks Question:

Q:  WHO IS YOUR FAVORITE VILLAIN FROM A BOOK?

This weeks question is so hard! I’m going to have to pick Ilya Prakenskii from the Drake Sisters Series by Christine Feehan. Through most of this series we never knew what Ilya’s intensions are, we don’t know if he is a villain per say but he isn’t really one of the good guys either. I I love a good/bad guy that walks the fine of edge of is he good? Or is he bad? Sure he had saved a few of their lives, but why did he do it? He’s a Russian hit man working for the Russian Mafia, isn’t he?  He dark, sexy and dangerous with special talents. If he wants you dead, you will be nothing you could do would save you…

I would also like to pick Ryodan from Karen Marie Moning’s Fever series. He is another one where we don’t really know what his intentions are. He is extremely deadly and dark. He plays with both the bad guys and the good guys. And damn is he sexy!

Honorable mentions – The Ghost (Psy-Changling) we don’t even know who the Ghost is!

Declan – Immortals After Dark Series He captures and tortures creatures from the Lore.

Review: Dannika Dark – Closer

A Spinoff of the Mageri Series:

Standalone:

Closer (A Novella): Kane and Caroline

Closer: A Novella

Purchase on Amazon: Dannika Dark – Closer ($2.99)

From Goodreads.com

Kane never believed in things like fate or karma. Not until the night he took a life.

Within the human world is a secret society of immortals and gifted supernaturals. Kane is one of them—a Sensor who experiences emotional energy through touch. But despite his good looks and easy-going personality, Kane lives a solitary life. Unlike other Sensors, he is unnaturally hypersensitive.

Touch brings pain.

Fate throws a curveball when a woman’s life is placed in his hands. Kane is suddenly faced with a difficult decision, each with its own moral consequence, and time is not on his side.

Will she be his salvation, or his ruination?

Review:

So I saw the author of this book post the book on Goodreads.com one night, I read the synopsis and something was tugging me to give the book a try even though I had other books I should have been reading. I have not read anything else by Dannika Dark and later learned that this book is set in the same world as a series she writes. I am so glad I gave this book a try!

It is a fairly short book as it is a novella, but it packs quite an emotional punch for not being a full length. I have a rule, that you may know about if you follow this blog. If you cry, you get a five and let me tell you, I was balling! I was a blubbering fool during part of this book.

It took me a little bit to get a feel for this new world that I was in, if I had read the series, I probably would have known more but as it is I didn’t so I had a new world to learn about. I picked it pretty quickly so you don’t really have to read the series to grasp the world in this book.

Kane was raised as a human and his Sensor abilities are off the charts sensitive, so he has a really hard time dealing in the real world. He can’t touch anyone and it’s hard for him to be in public, because he picks up all sorts of things that he doesn’t want to know. He is basically all alone in the world with only a human sister he can’t see because he’s not aging and because of his abilities. His abilities also make it really hard for him to keep a job and make a connection. He is struggling with his loneliness when his fate changes forever. He passes a human male and once again he sees something he wishes he never had to see and he can’t keep himself from reacting and than he does the forbidden and ends up on the run. Kane has never done anything like this before and makes mistake after mistake which leads him to Caroline, but by the time he finds her he may be too late.

Caroline is also a Sensor, but she has the opposite problem as Kane, she is defective. She can receive emotions but she can’t project them. This makes her defective and she remains on the fringes of their society much like Kane. She also lives a fairly lonely existence, since her father disappeared. When Kane first touches Caroline, he is pulled into her mind. For that she soundly pummels him for entering her scared space, go Caroline! Once she figures out that he’s not doing it on purpose (and we never really find out how he can do this, which remains unresolved) she settles down. Most of this book ends up taking place in Caroline’s mind which ends up creating an extremely intimate setting, because of this these two get closer to each other than they ever would have been able to otherwise. Caroline is a fantastic character, she is feisty and holds her own. I loved that she gave Kane as much ish as she did, but she is also venerable and sweet. Her circumstances are incredibly dire, but she tries to maintain hope in a desperate situation. In the end, her hope may not be enough and it will be too late…

Overall I really loved this book, it is emotional and meaningful. Two people find themselves in an unlikely situation and have to make the best of it. The characters are very likeable and the story intriguing. I did have an issue with a couple of unresolved issues and would have liked an epilogue with a one year later, I felt we could have used that closure, but I guess Ms. Dark is also leaving it open for a possibility for a sequel. I have no idea If that is even in her thoughts, but I’m throwing it out there. Also, we went on a few unnecessary tangents, with as short as the book is, I think these could have been left out. Other than that, fantastic read! I will more than likely at some point go back and read her series because I enjoyed this one so much! Great job!
